About 8 months ago, I decided to take the plunge and build a PC just for use on my TV. I did this because I wanted to enjoy any streaming service I wanted from the comfort of my living room. Little did I know the tremendous difference it would make in my life. It’s been a great experience. So great, that I don’t think I could ever not have a PC attached to my TV. Here are some top reasons why.
1. Endless options
From a PC I can watch anything on Hulu, Crackle, YouTube, MLBTV or any other video streaming service. Options are limited on devices like the Roku, PS3 or Xbox.
2. DVD/Blu-ray Player
Not only can I stream content, but if I have a DVD or Blu-ray, I can play those as well. An even better option is the ability to rip movies to the hard drive.
3. Browse the web
A TV is not exactly an ideal thing to browse the web on, but when I quickly want to look something up, I can without having to leave the comfort of my recliner.
The features you’ll find with software like Windows Media Center or MythTV will blow away any DVR your cable company provides. It’s even better than Tivo.
5. Music, Video & Pictures
I can play any music or videos from virtually any form of media as well as view pictures.
6. Everything is playable
No matter what format a given video is encoded in, or the type of media it’s on, a PC will be able to play it.
