We recently started using a Tivo Mini that started restarting on its own at random times. This seems to be a common problem where there are multiple solutions. Here are some things you can try if your Tivo Mini reboots itself.
Change HDMI Cable
If you’re using an HDMI cable to connect your Tivo Mini to your TV, try using a different cable.
Try Different HDMI Port
If your TV has more than one HDMI port, try switching the connection to the Tivo to the other one.
Switch to Coaxial Connection
This is the fix that works most of the time if you’re using an HDMI connection. It seems that the Tivo Mini does not work very well with an HDMI connection to certain brands of TV. Vizio is the most problematic. Your only option in these instances is to switch and use a coaxial cable to connect your TV and Tivo instead of an HDMI cable.
Use an HDMI Switch
If you absolutely must use an HDMI connection with your Tivo and you experience reboot issues, try installing a standard HDMI switch in between your Tivo to TV connection.
Reset MoCa Box
If you’re using a Moca connection to stream shows from one Tivo to another, try resetting the MoCa box. It is usually installed where your cable company connection enters the house.
The MoCa box usually has a small reset button on it that you can use a ball point pen to push and reboot the box. Otherwise, you can unplug it from the wall outlet for a minute, then plug it back in.
There are a few other methods listed on Tivo’s website.
