New On Netflix Instant – December 2013

It’s the holiday season, but Netflix didn’t add too many holiday movies to Instant this year. There are a few that are already available, but we expected more. More Star Trek movies arrive this month though. Here’s the list of new releases on Netflix Instant for December 2013.

Dec 1

Apocalypse Now (1979) – Starring Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, and Robert Duvall. This one returns to Netflix. Captain Willard is sent on a mission to Cambodia to kill a colonel who has gone insane.

All I Want for Christmas (2007) – Starring Gail O’Grady, Greg Germann, and Robert Mailhouse. A young boy makes a video asking that his Mom be given a husband for Christmas that launches the family into the national spotlight.

Cry-Baby (1990) – Starring Johnny Depp. A musical set in 1950s Baltimore. A young man is blamed for a riot and sent to a reform school.

Dances With Wolves (1990) – Starring Kevin Costner. Costner’s directorial debut. A Civil War soldier befrends local Indians and Wolves. His peace is interrupted with the arrival of Union soldiers.

Hannibal (2001) – Starring Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore, and Gary Oldman. The sequel to “Silence of the Lambs”. Hannibal resurfaces after 10 years to toy with Agent Clarice Starling.

Highlander: Endgame (2000) – Starring Christopher Lambert, Adrian Paul, and Bruce Payne. The 4th film in the Highlander series joins the movie and TV series.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 8 (2012) – Starring Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, Glenn Howerton, and Rob McElhenney. Friends run a pub where things hysterically go wrong.

Modern Problems (1981) – Starring Chevy Chase. An air traffic controller is given the power of telekinesis after having contact with nuclear waste. He uses the powers to gain his old girlfriend back along with getting a little revenge.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) – Starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley. The original POTC movie. A young swain and pirate set off to rescue a maiden from rival buccaneers.

My Boss’s Daughter (2003) – Starring Ashton Kuther and Tara Reid. Your typical comedy about a guy who is attracted to his intimidating boss’s daughter.

Red Dawn (2012) – Starring Chris Hemsworth. A remake of the 80’s action film. The Vietnamese army invades the United States and the Wolverines mount a resistance.

Red Water (2003) – Starring Lou Diamond Phillips. Another B-movie “Jaws” clone.

Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home (1986) – Starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.  The conclusion of the story that begins in Star Trek 2.

Star Trek: First Contact (1996) Starring Patrick Stewart. Captain Picard and his crew pursue the Borg back in time to stop them from preventing Earth’s first contact with an alien species.

Star Trek: Generations (1994) – Starring Patrick Stewart and William Shatner. Captain Kirk and Picard team up against Dr. Soran to prevent the annihilation of  a planetary system.

The Haunting (1999) – Starring Liam Neeson and Catherin Zeta-Jones. Another “The Haunting of Hill House” based movie.

Where the Buffalo Roam (1980) – Starring Peter Boyle and Bill Murray. A comedy based on the writings of Hunter S. Thompson.


Dec 12

The Short Game (2013) – A Netflix original series. A documentary on children’s golf. (link)


Dec 13

Lillyhammer: Season 2 (2013) – A Netflix original series. 8 new episodes will be released of this series about a mob “fixer” who goes into the witness protection program. (link)

Talhotblond (2009) – Starring Garrett Dillahunt, Brando Eaton, and Laura San Giacomo. An online relationship evolves into trouble for a married father of two.


Dec 19

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (1997) – Starring Mike Nelson. Mike and his robot friends riff this film about a zombie who goes on a killing spree.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Night of the Blood Beast (1996): Starring Joel Hodgson. Joel and the robots riff this film about a songwriter whose honeymoon is derailed by an alien impregnated astronaut.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Warrior of the Lost World (1993): Starring Joel Hodgson. Joel and the bots make fun of this Night Rider ripoff about a guy and his talking motorcycle.


Dec 20

Chocolate (2008) – Starring Jeeja Yanin. Not the classic drama from 2000, but an action movie. An autistic girl seeks revenge against gangs who owe money to her family.

Food, Inc. (2008) – Returning to Netflix Instant. An Oscar nominated documentary about the food industry and its effect on health and the environment.


Dec 23

The Fog (2005) – Starring Tom Welling and Maggie Grace. A remake of John Carpenter’s 1980 horror classic.


Dec 30

6 Guns (2009) – Starring Barry Van Dyke. A young girl seeks training from a bounty hunter so she can get revenge on the men who killed her family.

Sherlock Holmes (2009)- Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Guy Ritchie makes Sherlock into an action flick.
