Hulu Plus doesn’t seem as popular as other streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime. The reason seems to be the commercials. If you’ve never subscribed to Hulu Plus, you may not know that the commercials are still there even though you’re paying $8 a month. Many streamers are turned off by this.
I am a Hulu Plus subscriber, and I have been for over a year now. At first I was immensely annoyed by the commercials, but after a few weeks of using the service I realized it’s totally worth the price. Here are 5 reasons why.
1. It’s better than a DVR
Having the shows available on Hulu Plus means those shows are never clogging my DVR. I also never have to worry about family members accidentally deleting something I haven’t watch. Everything is ready to stream when I want.
2. It’s better quality video than what your cable company gives you
Hulu streams many of your favorite shows in true HD quality. Oh, your cable provider supplies channels in HD too? Look closer. Many of the channels are compressed. That means when there is a fast-paced scene, you’ll get a “pixelated”, and crappy quality video. Hulu HD videos are not compressed and won’t pixelate.
3. The commercials aren’t really that annoying
Since Hulu’s commercials are sculpted for each viewer, I actually find myself interested in the products advertised. In the end, they aren’t that annoying to watch. The commercials only take about a minute or two before it’s right back to the show. That’s about how long it takes for you to fast-forward through commercials on your DVR, realize you went too far, rewind, then watch the last 15 seconds of a commercial so that you don’t miss anything.
4. It has a great search engine
Hulu has the search engine I always wanted Netflix to have. You can search by movie title, network, season number, actors, directors and air date. You can even search shows available on other websites. I often visit Hulu just to search the shows available on CBS’s website.
5. It compliments Netflix well
Netflix users can greatly extend their viewing options with Hulu Plus. Many of the movies you find on Hulu Plus can’t be found in the Netflix Instant catalog. This can’t be said about other services like Amazon Prime, which has many of the same titles.
Yeah Hulu’s commercials suck. They often remove episodes from the service and make you wait a long time before some shows are available. It’s the same cost as about 2 trips to Starbucks though. For a service that extends your streaming catalog exponentially and provides awesome content, I think it’s well worth the price.
If you haven’t given Hulu Plus a try, you can try it out free for a week.
