Fire TV: Set Default Input Upon Power On

Out of the box, the Insignia and Toshiba Fire TV will display the Home screen when you power it on. You might use a cable box, DVR, or other video streaming device with your Fire TV and want to set the default input to a different device.

Unfortunately, there is no setting that allows you to set the Fire TV to use a specific input when the TV gets powered on. However, you can set the TV to power on to the last input that was used when it was powered off. Just use these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, choose “Settings“.
  2. Choose “Display & Sounds“.
  3. Select “Set Power“.
  4. Change the setting to “Last input“.

Now the TV will default to the last input used when you turn it on.

I want to be clear that this is a setting for the full Insignia and Toshiba Fire TV edition sets.

  3. Question – I have set my default to power on to HDMI1. BUT—Now I can’t get to the settings menu on my Toshiba fire tv. When I press the settings button on the remote, nothing happens. How do I change the last input back to the Toshiba start up screen?
