Connecting Roku to Bluetooth Headphones Using the Roku App
You will need a mobile device like an Android or iOS phone or tablet to use this method.
- Download and install the Roku mobile app to your device.
- Pair your Bluetooth headphones to your mobile device. Android users can swipe down from the top of the screen to bring up the quick menu, then tap and hold Bluetooth. iPhone and iPad users can go to Settings > Bluetooth.
- Place your Bluetooth headphones in pairing mode. This usually requires you to press and hold a button on the headphones or removing them from their case and holding them. If you’re unsure about how to place your Bluetooth headphones in pairing mode, have a look at the documentation provided for your particular model of headphones.
- Open the Roku app. Once you have the app connected to your Roku device, select Remote then tap the headphones icon. From there you can enjoy listening to your Roku content on Bluetooth headphones.
Connecting Roku to Bluetooth Headphones Using a Bluetooth Receiver
If your TV has an audio jack for headphones, you can connect a Bluetooth Transmitter to it to make it support Bluetooth headphones. This is a great option for TCL and Sharp branded Roku TV sets as most of them have an audio jack.
If your TV does not have an audio output jack, another option is to use an HDMI Audio Extractor. This device will allow you to connect the Bluetooth transmitter to the HDMI Audio Extractor, then allow you to listen with Bluetooth headphones.
Listening to Roku Content Using TV Bluetooth
If your TV has Bluetooth built in, you can connect your Bluetooth headphones to the TV instead of the Roku. This will even work for Fire TV sets that have Bluetooth. Check the documentation for your TV to find out how to connect Bluetooth devices. Once connected, anything you watch on the TV will send audio to the connected Bluetooth device. Including Roku.
