Amazon Fire TV USB Port Not Working

The USB Port on the Amazon Fire TV allows you to connect a USB drive so that you can watch video directly from an external drive. The feature commonly doesn’t work because of this one setting. We show you how to fix this.

The USB Port on the Fire TV won’t work with external drives connected if USB Debugging is enabled. USB Debugging is often used by Developers when writing apps for the device. Chances are, you probably don’t need to have it enabled. Check the setting and ensure it’s disabled with these steps:

  1. From “Settings“, scroll down and select “System“.
  2. Select “Developer Options“.
  3. Toggle “USB debugging” to “Off“.

Another problem users are reporting is that the USB port doesn’t work if their Fire TV box is connected to a wired Ethernet network connection. In these cases, you may have to disconnect the wired network cable and use Wi-Fi instead.
