Roku TV Has Flashing Red Light; Won’t Turn On

Many users of the TCL, Sharp and Hisense Roku TV have reported a problem where the TV will not turn on and the indicator light on the front flashes red twice. This usually indicates there is a problem with the TV.

Note: This post is related to Roku TV devices, not non-integrated Roku devices. If you have a flashing red light on your Roku box, Streaming Stick, or other non-Roku integrated device, it means that your device is not getting enough power. See our post about fixing insufficient power with Roku.

I have a lot of experience with these TVs, and the only thing I have seen that fixes this problem is performing a factory reset on the TV or having a professional repair it.

Let’s see if a factory reset will revive your TV with these steps:

Factory Reset Using Reset Button

  1. Look for a small, pinhole sized reset button on the back of the TV. It is usually located around the HDMI ports. If you can’t find one, use the ‘Factory Reset Without Using Reset Buttons’ steps.
  2. Use a paperclip to press and hold the reset button for 12 seconds.

Factory Reset Without Reset Button

  1. Press and hold the “Mute” and “Power” buttons located on the TV panel. For Sharp models, just press and hold “Power“.
  2. Continue to hold both buttons while unplugging the power cable from the power outlet.
  3. Still hold both buttons and plug the power cable back into the power outlet.

Hopefully after performing these steps, your Roku TV is back up and running. If it isn’t, try to repeat the factory reset steps again.

If after trying these steps, you are still experiencing problems with your TCL, Sharp or Hisense Roku TV, you may want to seek a professional to get it repaired. If your TV is under warranty, try contacting the manufacturer.

If you wish to try to tackle the problem yourself, there are a few YouTube videos dedicated to this problem that teach you how to crack open the Roku TV and fix it yourself.
