Toshiba/Insignia Fire TV: How to Set Sleep Timer

A sleep timer is a wonderful feature if you like watching TV until you fall asleep. The TV will automatically shut off after a period of time. Toshiba and Insignia branded Fire TV sets have a sleep timer feature. Find out how to set the sleep timer with this guide.


Enabling Sleep Timer

  1. From any screen, press and hold the “Home” button on the remote until a menu appears on the right side of the screen.
  2. Scroll down to “Sleep Timer” and select it.
  3. Select the amount of time you wish to set on the sleep timer.
  4. Once you select the time, the timer will be displayed showing a count-down. This will automatically disappear after a few seconds.

Disabling Sleep Timer

  1. If you change your mind and want to disable the sleep timer after you’ve set it, you can follow these steps:
  2. From any screen, press and hold the “Home” button on the remote until a menu appears on the right side of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to the item with the timer counting down that says “x:xx until sleep“, then select it.
  4. Select “Off“.

The sleep timer will then be disabled.

  1. I have tried this and for some reason my tv will not allow me to click the OFF option for the Sleep Timer and it keeps powering off my tv at weird random times anywhere from 5 minutes to 240 minutes. I have tried a factory reset of the TV but it is not fixing this issue. What do you suggest

    • Only thing I can think of is the remote. Are the batteries low in the remote. Is there sticky stuff in caught in the remote buttons? Is another device in your home sending a signal to the TV somehow?

  2. I just got my TV. I go to the sleep mode and select what time I want. It says time and OFF. Is there a way to get the OFF off of there.
