Fix: No Sound on Firestick

If you are having problems with your Amazon Firestick not playing sound, you can usually resolve the problem with these troubleshooting steps. This guide should help you if your Firestick audio sporadically stops working or never works.

Fix 1 – Check Mute Button

If your Firestick remote is equipped with a Mute button, try pressing it to see if that un-mutes your TV.

Fix 2 – Reset

A simple reset might make the sound work again. Just hold down the Play and Select ● buttons on the remote simultaneously until the Firestick restarts.

Fix 3 – Reseat All Connections

A loose cable connection could cause this issue. Try unplugging the Firestick from the wall outlet and the HDMI port on the TV, then plug everything back in. Be sure that the HDMI connection is securely plugged all the way into the port.

Fix 4 – Check Sound Setting (Recommended Fix)

  1. From the Home screen, go to “Settings” > “Display & Sounds” > “Audio“.
  2. On some models, select Surround Sound. Other models, proceed to step 3.
  3. Try a different setting here such as “Stereo” or “PCM“.

Also check the audio settings on your TV to see if the built-in speakers are turned off.

Fix 5 – Ensure HDMI Port Supports Audio

Sometimes there is a setting on the TV that turns audio capability for an HDMI port off. Check the documentation for your TV to see if there is a setting you’ll need to change to allow audio via HDMI.

What might also work is switching the Firestick to another HDMI port on your TV if one is available.

Fix 6 – Don’t Use Bluetooth

At the moment, several Fire TV apps have problems with audio through Bluetooth. Most notably, the Apple TV+ app. Problems were reported by users months ago, but Apple does not yet have a fix.

Try listening to the audio through regular speakers instead of Bluetooth until the problem is resolved.
